About the Teacher

I am Mary Ann Duncan.  This is my eighth year of teaching second grade.  My love for this grade grows with each year.  I watch the students enter the school year as a bundle of nerves waiting to see what will happen next and leave as independent thinkers who are ready to conquer the next obstacle with confidence.  An amazing transformation happens in second grade.  I feel blessed every year that I am able to be a part of this process.

I earned my AA from South Florida Community College and then quickly transferred to Warner Southern College to earn my BA in Elementary Education.  I am a K-6 certified teacher with an ESOL endorsement.  I am currently working on earning my Reading Endorsement.   In a few years, I plan on working towards earning my Master's Degree.  I have taken numerous Kagan workshops and incorporate these structures and strategies into the classroom daily.  I am constantly looking for opportunities to learn since education is a quickly changing profession.

I am not only a teacher, but I am a wife and a mom of four kids.  I have been married to my husband, Daiquiri Duncan, for eleven years and we have been blessed with four fabulously active kids.  Laughing  My daughter Lindsay is 9, Ethan is 6, and the twins, Matthew and Jacob, are 4.  That's right...I tried for the third child and was shocked to say the least!  They make my life richer with every minute of the day.  There is never a dull moment in my house and the comment "I'm bored!" is never even thought of.

I am a member of First Baptist Church of Arcadia where I work with the fourth graders in AWANAS, teach third graders in Sunday School, and sing praises in Children's Choir with the three to five year olds.  When there is time in my day, I like to curl up with a good book.  The last book that I read was Crimson Eve.  I also like to spend time hanging out with my kids playing games, baking goodies, talking, or making an art project.  Our favorite place to spend time as a family is Disney World.
